Today is a good day. The sun, she is ‘a shining, the productivity, she is ‘a flowing. And my post, A Space to Create, was Freshly Pressed. What makes that especially fun for me is the opportunity to share that feeling with you guys through something I call…
For those of you who are long-time readers, you know the drill. For new friends (welcome!), here’s how it works:
Freshly Press Yourself is a chance to share a post from your own blog, make new blogging friends, and possibly grow your readership. I can’t help you get Freshly Pressed (nor am I in any way associated with the WordPress powers that be) but I can help you share your stuff with a very cool audience of Truth and Cake readers. As bloggers, we’re all looking to connect with new people and get our work out there, so here’s your chance. Go for it.
To participate, follow these 5 steps:
1) Choose a post–your favorite, your most popular, your least popular. It can be funny, helpful, visual or heartfelt–anything original and worth a read.
2) Link to your post in the comments section of this post. Include a *brief* and enticing description of your post.
3) Read the comment directly above your own and then click through to read and comment on that person’s post.
4) Choose two other posts (any you like) and read and comment on those posts as well–please comment directly on people’s blogs, not in the comments section. That’s a total of 3 blogs to read and comment on. (Feel free to read as many as you like. Remember, the more you visit and comment on other blogs, the likelier you are to have the favor returned!)
5) If you like what you read, go ahead and subscribe to those blogs.
I’ll choose three fabulous posts to feature next week on Truth and Cake! Past features include:
You can check out past Freshly Press Yourself posts and comments for inspiration and clarification:
Freshly Press Yourself, Now With Extra Wrinkle Release
(The First) Freshly Press Yourself
And you can find a roundup of the featured posts here:
So Fresh and So Clean
The Pressables
This is a fun opportunity to connect with fellow bloggers and possibly grow your readership. Some posts see a big uptick in comments and likes. *A little tip: the quicker you are, the more likely you are to get visits to your blog. Early posters see the most traffic.*
You can post your link in the comments section through Saturday, July 20. I’ll feature three blog posts on Monday, July 22. Have fun! I can’t wait to read your awesome posts.
I quit my job and got on a plane to San Francisco to be with the man I love, to figure out what to do with my life, and to blog. Obviously.

I quit my job, too! I left my job so I could focus on being the mom I want to be and so that I can take some time finding a new job that is more meaningful and fulfilling. Enjoy blogging!

Thank you!
This is the most popular post on my site. I think it gets a lot of hits because people search for the location to go take their own photos. It’s a creepy place with a lot of history and even more graffiti art. http://gingerleaphotography.com/2012/11/11/american-flat-nevada/
These are breathtakingly amazing photos – as an artist it made my day to see them and especially to know that location is not so far away from where I call home (Los Angeles). Thanks so much for the discovery!!!
Thank you for the nice compliment. It’s an easier detour to American Flats from Virginia City. But, you might want to get there before they bulldoze it. Rumors are that it will be happening in the next year or so.
Congrats on the Freshly Pressed post! Thanks for this opportunity :)
Fellow readers: Do your children collect things? Pinecones, rocks, shells, chewed wads of gum? Perhaps they are just embracing their inner squirrels.

Freshyly Pressed again? Congratulations, Rian! Though, I’m not surprised in the least. ;)
Helllo!!! We’re Kaitlyn & Sarah from theduckandtheowl, just two long-distance besties blogging together about life, pop-culture, and current events. Our goal is to spread positivity and empowerment to our readers. We think that this particular post, written after a week of tragedies, sums up what we’re all about.
http://theduckandtheowl.wordpress.com/2013/04/20/our-power-in-hope/
Much Love,
Kaitlyn & Sarah :)
I love your site- especially the more recent posts about Cory Monteith and the stream of consciousness post!!!
Oh, Rian, you are so wonderful…amazing….talented….kind….etc, etc, etc :)
The post I’m sharing was the most difficult for me to write and release. It’s also the one that I’ve had the greatest response to and it has the most views. It’s a post about my miscarriage. When I wrote about it, I hoped women would find comfort in being able to relate, but I had no idea how many would reach out privately and share their stories with me…through email, facebook, at family dinner, and of ourse on the blog. It’s a can of worms that I had to chisel and pry open, but I’m so grateful that I did. Happy reading! XO, Tobi
http://hunting4bliss.com/2013/02/27/this-thing-that-happened-to-me/
Tobi, this story was so heartfelt and well-written. I remember reading it the first time around. Thank you for sharing it!
<3 thanks
I agree with Jorie- this one hit home for me, and I know it was hard for you to write.
Thanks Amber <3
Tobi, thank you for having the strength and finding the courage to write this. I also had a very similar experience last year and wrote my own post about it. The heart-wrenching pain and loss you feel is indescribable, but what made the whole experience even worse for me was the thought that I didn’t have the right to mourn. Those trying to offer condolences, with the very best intentions, will tell you that miscarriage is common, that it wasn’t viable to begin with, that you’re lucky it happened when it did, etc., etc., but that doesn’t make it any easier. Thank you for chiseling and prying open that can of worms – there are many of us that are grateful!
I’m sorry for your loss, but glad you could relate to my post. Your post about your miscarriage was also powerful and brave. Hugs!
Congratulations Rian and thanks again for giving us this opportunity. Just by chance, I am also writing about loss of children and more especially my four miscarriages I had 40 years ago. It was a heart wrenching post as I have never really grieved for their loss. This came about because we lost twin boy grandchildren two years ago at 24 weeks. I have been told you need the tissues handy!

Congratulations on being freshly pressed! What a fun sharing opportunity you do here. It’s been fun discovering all these blogs.
I have a DIY crafting blog sharing my ideas and experiences creating and innovating. This post shares an easy way to save a sweater that you would otherwise throw away!

Congrats on being Freshly Pressed, Rian! I love your pay-it-forward philosophy.
I’m submitting a piece I wrote for Father’s Day about all the advice my old man has passed down to me over the last 25 years. Some of his lessons are funny, some are practical, but nearly all are universally applicable.
Even though none of my readers know my dad personally, his advice really seemed to resonate with a wide audience. I thought it would be a fitting tribute to write down and pass along some of his truisms, in honor of fathers everywhere.
http://themidwestmaven.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/lessons-ive-learned-from-my-dad/
I remember enjoying reading about your Dad in this post! :)
Hello, I’m new to blogging and only found your site a few days ago. Well done for getting freshly pressed its completely deserved. I am familiar with the pay it forward philosophy having been introduced to it last year and its a great concept.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to post, I haven’t written many posts to date but I still struggled to choose just one! Its a little intro to who the five m’s are and what are names mean. Here it is, happy reading.
http://fivemsblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/whats-in-a-name/
Congratulations on being freshly pressed again! It’s really nice of you to provide this opportunity.
Ever since I started blogging, I’ve struggled to decide whether or not I should get too personal. Basically, I’ve just been afraid of being vulnerable in front of an audience. This post is one step to get over that fear. It’s about why I think it’s important to consciously choose optimism over pessimism.
http://readwriteloveblog.wordpress.com/2013/07/04/self-versus-self/
Thanks!
Wow fantastic freshly pressed :)
I haven’t been blogging for very long, a couple of months, but since I started I’m really glad I did. It’s fun and allows me to get my thoughts out. I started my blog with a Blog Everyday In May Challenge, and this post was one of my challenges. It’s a wee peek into my life and who I am.
If I Couldn’t Answer With My Job, How Would I Answer The Question, “What Do You Do?”
http://whattheblog89.wordpress.com/2013/05/21/if-i-couldnt-answer-with-my-job-how-would-i-answer-the-question-what-do-you-do/
Enjoy!
It amazes me how often you get Freshly Pressed. Not to say that you don’t deserve it, because you definitely do! But still, it’s pretty amazing. :)
The Golden Internet Rule
I discuss the bad habit of people to be “jerks” to each other on the internet, and why it’s a very silly, very bad idea.
http://nopageleftblank.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/the-golden-internet-rule/
You continue to amaze and inspire us Rian. Thanks for giving back with these fun freshly press yourself posts too!
This is still my favorite post, despite being about a year old. I took on a challenge to truly use what I already have and I learned to appreciate simplicity. It was a 30×30 challenge where I spent 30 days wearing and remixing only 30 items of clothing – clothing that I already owned. I learned that less really is more and life is much easier when you’re not paralyzed by too many options.
http://alittleoldfashioned.wordpress.com/2012/07/12/what-i-learned-from-my-first-remix-challenge/
Wow!! Fresh press yourself seems like a great opportunity!! And I’m certainly going to grab it!!
I would like to share my post Hey,stop!!! This is the link to it :
http://lynan.wordpress.com/heystop/
Sometimes life’s a rush! While it’s good to keep yourself occupied,it’s never a good thing to be “too busy” to enjoy life….So stop for a while and look around you!! What you see might surprise you :)
You’re hittin’ your stride, Rian! Thanks so much for sharing the Freshly Pressed love with us all.
This post was my scariest of all to write. It’s mainly about my surprise pregnancy, but also touches on how we handle and adapt to changes and newness in life.
http://bravejuice.com/2013/06/03/the-best-laid-plans/
I loved this post. I’m glad you’re sharing it here. :)
Thank you, Amber. I so appreciate your continual support and “blog love.” <3
LOVED your post – I completely jived with it as I, myself, found out in February that I was pregnant, due in October, and yes, it’s a boy! We’ve decided to use Rhys as his middle name – it means “enthusiastic” is Welch – because he’s a bit of a wiggler and dancer as well! PS….Congrats!
No way, Kristen! Congratulations to YOU! That little babe is going to have the most beautiful nursery your side of the Mississippi with you as his Momma. Rhys was the name of a former colleague’s husband – I always thought it was such a handsome and stately name. I never knew it’s origin! How very exciting. :)
Love this post.
Thank you, Lola! I am loving your “Zoeisms” :)
Congratulations on getting Freshly Pressed! I love the idea of sharing the success, it’s very generous.
I’ve chosen to share one of my humor pieces from my “Dating Advice From…” series. In this case, what if famous scientists wrote dating advice columns?
http://mnsho.com/2013/07/03/dating-advice-from-scientists/
Rian, you rock! Congrats! I was hoping when I saw that you’d been FP’d again that it would mean another round of FP Yourself- I love this project and always find fabulous new reads! It was a pleasure to be included in the last round of “Pressables.”
I’m sharing a post about my dad, and what he’s passing down to me. The emphasis, though, is on a speech my Pops gave back in 1979 about the best gift HE ever received: a cheap fishing pole. Thanks for reading!
http://theusualbliss.com/2013/06/15/inheritance/
A delightful platform, Rian. Thanks!
My post, Not Quite a Clustercuss, contains one of my past journal entries, as well as my perspective on an incident in which I attempted to break up with the man who is now my husband.

Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed Rian!
My post is about my attempt to turn my ridiculous television habit into something at least a little thought-provoking: http://wp.me/p2myYW-13Q
Cheers to the eccentric genius! Thanks for the tv show suggestion – I think Perception may have just gained a new fan :)
Hear, hear – I always love finding people on TV who are weirder than me ;)
What a great platform Rian – thanks for sharing your success, letting us put ourselves out there, and giving us the chance to discover other fellow bloggers! I completely clicked with your “A Space to Create” post since I’ve been in the process of designing – and redesigning – my own space. It’s a never ending process! Here are a few tips on how I’ve managed to do it on a budget, little by little: http://themodagecottage.com/2013/07/02/house-to-home-decorating-on-a-budget/
Congratulations on being FP’d yet again! You deserve it! And, what’s more I love that you share the recognition by taking the opportunity to foster community with your blog! Very admirable.
This post is quite recent and I think it highlights the essence of my blog: an exploration of myself as I journey to becoming a naturopathic doctor. My blog is an eclectic mix of healing philosophy, personal reflections and tips on adopting a healthier (yet delicious) lifestyle.
http://taliamarcheggiani.com/2013/07/09/when-all-the-tests-come-back-negative/
I hope you enjoy it!
Congratulations Rian! You deserve it! :) My post is about my recent purchase: “Wreck This Journal” by Keri Smith. The task is basically the title of the book, but the problem is I’m having a hard time destroying it. In fact, I may be doing just the opposite.
http://lifeaccordingtopatsy.wordpress.com/2013/07/17/destroying-is-not-as-easy-as-i-thought-it-would-be/
Hi Rian,
First of all, I say congratulations to you – it’s wonderful to see your writing be recognized again. Your talent and insights are consistent and great! And, I love how you take this good fortune and turn it into something even so much better for your readers and in turn, theirs. In a crazy world, I love seeing this glimmer of creative goodness shine on so many.
A few months back, I wrote a post on the struggles associated with letting go, even when you know it’s absolutely the necessary path:
“…Letting go is saying yes to loss. Choosing to say goodbye to something. Even the things in our lives that take up unnecessary space, cause pain, or rob us of joy somehow settle in as something familiar and letting go creates an unexpected emptiness. Letting go is an active invitation of the unfamiliar…”
http://paperkeeper.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/holding-tight-the-laces/
Congrats again Rian, and thank you for doing things your (awesome) way! xo
Letting go is one of the most profound yet simple concepts – I love the post!
Thank you so much…its a constant learning process with new tests and challenges all the time!
I visited one of Ireland’s Islands recently, an inspiring and beautiful place, home of a real life pirate, a woman and fearless leader. Her castle and legacy remains… http://thatcuriousloveofgreen.com/2013/07/12/into-the-west-trip-to-clare-island-home-of-grace-omalley-pirate-queen/
The major reason I love “Freshly Pressed” is because it is a quick way to access many imaginative and thought-provoking thoughts of regular (i.e. not on a Bestseller list somewhere) people.
A post I’d like to share is in memory of three patients I lost, and the challenges they faced before and during their diagnoses: http://penpaperstorm.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/363/
Thank you for this opportunity.
Hello all! I am currently in Lebanon, exploring the country where my dad was born and where half of my blood breathes. In this post, I talk about some of the struggles I am facing here and how reaching out to others helps me overcome those challenges.

Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
A recent post of mine is about ‘Social Media’-because most of us use one form of Social Media or another, I thought it was something worth discussing with other bloggers…
http://allisreviewed.wordpress.com/2013/07/16/social-media-is-it-doing-more-harm-than-good/
Congratulations on being ‘Freshly Pressed’, and sharing the opportunity with us! The Blog Post I’m sharing is about discovering culture close to home. I posted it while on a trip for the first time to Quebec City, and wrote on the small revelation I had… Not much, but I’m starting out small.
http://dolcidellavita.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/bonjour-de-quebec/
Good for you on your freshly pressed stardom! I like this idea you have about sharing posts and checking up on other bloggers. This post is about how irrational/hysterical I become when caught off-guard by things that creep me out. I hope it makes you laugh.

Thanks for reading!
Congrats, Rian!!! That was a lovely post, the pictures inspiring as well as your insight into beautiful creating spaces that inspire. I was going to offer some of my daughters art work to help with the photo of the bright art wall ;) This is a post that is close to my heart, so I’ll share it here.
http://arenaissanceglow.com/2013/04/04/paris-ooh-la-la-2/
Love a great idea and we could all use a prompt to engage and share more, thank you. Here is a link to my latest post. A bit different from the norm but I think that is the way it is going so will just go with it. The blog is about carving out the good life for yourself! An eternal strive and different for everyone.

Thanks!
This is such a wonderful idea Rian! Thanks for the opportunity to showcase my blog and read so many wonderful posts by others.
I have two pet passions – writing and gifting. Yes I know, it’s a strange combination all right.
My blog, I love Gifting, is about the gift of love and life and gifts for all the happy occasions the duo entail. My favourite post is called ‘Days that begin and end with the gift of dreams’. Check it out: http://ilovegifting.me/2013/02/27/days-that-begin-and-end-with-the-gift-of-dreams/
Hi! This is such a great idea – thanks for sharing!
In “On Blogging” this closet blogger shares her reasons for going public. Enjoy!

Really enjoying your posts- found you through Freshly Pressed!
This is one of my favorite posts from my blog- it is the daily wisdom of my beloved and hilarious daughter Zoey (age 5).

Mega creative idea to get more people following your blog and also to spread the following love around. My blog is about small blogs and small blog discovery. This post I did is on why to write about (small blogs): http://awakencurioussocial.com/2013/06/18/10-reasons-to-write-about-small-blogs/ and I think your small blog is pretty awesome too so keep an eye out and I’ll do a feature post soon :) Great work!
I’m new to blogging but I’m enjoying all the great work!

I quit my job so that I can start living life again. I want a job that is meaningful, I want to be a better mom, and I want to be myself.
I am a few weeks into this new adventure and so far I have discovered that I love cooking and baking with rhubarb:

This is so much fun, Rian, thanks for doing this!
My latest post is a recipe for date sweetened Chocolate chips cookies – http://cheffingit.wordpress.com/2013/07/16/date-sweetened-chocolate-chip-cookies/. Not only are these cookies moist and chewy, but they are gluten, grain, dairy and refined sweetener free. I love making desserts nearly everyone can enjoy!
I have a baking blog! I’m a Canadian, living in Australia! Check out my delicious vegan rice pudding with blueberry compote.

Yay Rian! Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed again. I couldn’t decide which post to use this time after the successful Sock Phantom of the last round of Freshly Press Yourself. So I have two. The first one is about the magic powers of children to telescope time: familymattersnz.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/magic-powers-of-children-302-time-distortion/ and the second is about my modern woman’s dilemma! http://familymattersnz.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/the-dilemma-of-the-modern-woman-ipad-or-kenwood-mixer/ Thanks so much for the opportunity!
I’m from India and in my blog, The Glass Bangle, I write about everything and anything that catches my fancy, mostly from a woman’s point of view. This post is about my eternal quest for a slimmer self which is never successful cos I love food and hate exercise in any form :)
http://theglassbangle.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/a-doomed-affair/
This is real good fun and thank you for making this happen !
Thanks for hosting the love on your site – great idea. And a big, happy congrats for your well-earned FP status – A Space to Create is a great post!
So I’m sharing a recent story I wrote about home – about all the conflicting, confronting and kinda comforting things that happen when a travel-addict / travel-writer (me) comes home.
This post is a bit different to the other travel articles on my blog – more personal – and I’d love hear what people think about it….

This sounds like a cool idea! Ok so here goes… wait I wasn’t ready… ok now!
So there’s not all that much to read on my blog, as I’m more of a graphic designer. I like pictures and speaking through them. I’m going to be doing a t-shirt line shortly and this is one of the designs.
This one’s called Do NOT Conform. If you like roman soldiers or t-shirt designs, you’re sure to like this one! (or maybe not, but check it out anyway)

In June this year I decided I was going to turn around my life once and for all, enough of lying to myself. First step to that was to unleash the writer in me and so I started this blog so that I can express myself and reach out to people. My journey has just begun but the joy is so worth it.

Great work on your blog and being freshly pressed! Check out my new blog that highlights my inspirations and things that I love. Thanks for creating this space, Riann.
“A Sunny Day Like This” will surprise you.
It’s about a friend. After I wrote it, her father and brother both contacted me. It continues to be viewed by people searching for this friend. We all continue to look for her, and find her in unexpected places and times.

What a lovely idea – sharing the love and making blogging friends. This post here is rather old, but my personal favourite of my own (blowing my own trumpet!) and I wrote it and uploaded it before I had many followers to read it:’The Etiquette of Commuting’ (London specific)

This is such a great idea :)

ANOTHER Freshly Pressed?! Now you’re just showing off. ;)
Anyway, here’s a post of mine from the archives, called ‘The Fears That Are Never Absent’. A couple of repeating scenarios made me reflect on what “fear” and “courage” mean to me.

Thanks for offering.

Not sure if anyone is still doing this but thought i’d give it a try. I’m new to the blogging world and want to get the word out and hopefully help others who connect with my blog. https://stopandsmellmyroses.wordpress.com/2015/07/02/monster-in-me/ This post was a journal entry I wrote on a particularly bad day with my depression and anxiety. I hope readers can connect with my words and find peace knowing that they are not alone in the fight of mental illness.
